Bage Pool, a grade II listed 16th century farmhouse of great character is situated in western Herefordshire's beautiful Golden Valley, on the Welsh Borders. It is a peaceful, rural family house with gardens, lake and eight acres of land including an historic tump, formerly a Norman border castle, with outstanding views over the Wye valley and beyond to the Radnor Hills. The Brecon Beacons are to the west and the Black Mountains to the south.
Hay on Wye, our local town, under 10 minutes drive away, is the world famous second hand bookshop centre with antique and vintage shops, galleries, boutiques, pubs, cafes, restaurants; all independant ~ no chains here ! Hay also has an 50-seater cinema in the famous Booths Bookshop, with up to date films and NT live programmes. Hay's fascinating medieval castle,site of many battles and wonderful rich history, is currently being renovated. And of course the celebrated
The annual Hay festival at the end of May when famous writers, politicians, poets, musicians, filmmakers, comedians and more descend on Hay From here our local village is Dorstone, with early church, pub and, walkable, the fascinating neolithic burial chamber, Arthur's Stone, on same ridge as the trig point. At Bredwardine is the perfect river beach for swimming in the Wye, below the first stone bridge in Herefordshire.
There are numerous local footpaths for walkers, including Offa’s Dyke, the Wye Valley walk and the Herefordshire Trail. Trekking and riding in the hills, canoeing on the Wye, biking along the valleys (bike hire is available in Hay) ~ guests have stayed en route with belongings in their paniers ! Gliding in the Black Mountains or exploring these wonderful borderlands from the comfort of your car. Apart from exploring Hay, an unmissable journey is to drive up to Hay Bluff over the Gospel Pass and down to ruined Llantony Abbey; also a beautiful drive is follow the road up the Wye to the market town of Builth Wells; visit the cathedral town of Brecon and admire the Beacons in the background; see the restored working mill at Talgarth and eat at the very good cafe there; visit the numerous border castles and Herefordshire cider orchards - a former working cider press is here at one end of the house !

Bage Pool is a great base for exploring the Black Mountains & Brecon Beacons as well as visiting charming local market centres of Brecon, Builth Wells, Hereford, Abergavenny & more, all within 20 miles.

Our local village of Dorstone has the ancient Pandy Inn with delicious food and great atmosphere, ideal for a relaxing meal after your day's exploring.
Apart from our Pandy Inn, Hay offers numerous gastro pubs, cafes, a popular Tomatitos Tapas bar; the highly rated St. John's Place restaurant; further afield, the River Cafe, Glasbury; the Felin Fach Griffin towards Brecon; The Bridge at Michaelchurch and more
Twin Room
Our comfortable, well presented twin bedroom with south facing views across the garden and the surrounding hills has a private bathroom. Cotton sheets and feather pillows help towards a good nights sleep. A flat screen TV with Sky freeview, clock radio and coffee/tea making facilities. There is also access to a power shower room opposite if our single room is unoccupied.
Single Room
Our small cosy single bedroom with antique four poster bed is very atmospheric and has its own shower room along the landing.
The whole house has access to free WiFi and recently fibre optic has been installed locally.
Extra portable heating, electric blankets and hot water bottles are available for cooler evenings.
Breakfast
All inclusive full English breakfast including locally sourced sausages & our own fresh eggs, from the AGA/requests welcomed. Orange juice, yoghurt, cereals, fruit & selection of breads served in the farmhouse oak panelled kitchen.
